Bluetooth® connects your phone to your Honda HandsFreeLink® system so you can make hands-free calls and stream music without picking up your phone. AutoNation Honda Covington Pike put together this guide to pair your phone in a few minutes.
How to Set Up Bluetooth in Your Honda
Before you start
- Park your Honda and turn the power on. You can't pair a phone while driving.
- Turn on Bluetooth in your phone's settings and keep your phone unlocked.
- Make sure your phone isn't connected to another Bluetooth device, like headphones.
Pair your phone
- On the Honda screen, press the Home button, then select Phone.
- If no phone is paired yet, select Yes when your Honda asks to pair one. Otherwise, select Connect Phone, then Connect New Device.
- On your phone, open Bluetooth settings and select HandsFreeLink from the list. You can also select HandsFreeLink Not Found on the Honda screen, then Continue, and pick your phone when it appears.
- Check that the pairing code on your phone matches the code on the Honda screen. If it does, confirm on both. If the codes don't match, start the steps over.
- Allow access to your contacts and messages when your phone asks, so hands-free calling and texting work.
Your phone and your Honda are now connected over Bluetooth. Menu names can differ by model year. On Honda models with a color audio screen, press the Phone button and select Add New Device. Your owner's manual has the exact steps for your Honda.
Using Bluetooth in Your Honda
Once you're connected, press the Talk button on your steering wheel or use the Honda screen to:
- Make and receive hands-free calls
- Stream music, podcasts and audiobooks from your phone
- Hear and reply to text messages with your voice
Want your phone's apps on the screen too? Follow our Apple CarPlay setup guide or our Android Auto setup guide.
Add, Switch or Delete a Phone
To add another phone, go to Settings > Phone > Bluetooth Device List and select Add Bluetooth Device. Many Honda models can store up to six phones, and Priority Device Settings lets you choose which phone connects first. To delete a phone, select it in the Bluetooth Device List and choose the option to delete it, then remove HandsFreeLink from your phone's Bluetooth list.
Bluetooth Not Connecting? Try These Fixes
If your phone won't pair or keeps dropping, go through these one at a time and test after each. They follow guidance from Honda.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on, then restart your phone and turn your Honda off and on again.
- Make sure your phone isn't connected to another device, like headphones or a smartwatch.
- Update your phone's software.
- Delete your phone from the Bluetooth Device List, remove HandsFreeLink from your phone's Bluetooth list, then pair again.
- Add Bluetooth Device grayed out? Disconnect Apple CarPlay or Android Auto first, then try again.
- Calls work but music doesn't? Check that your phone shows as compatible with both HandsFreeLink and Bluetooth Audio, then choose Bluetooth Audio as your audio source.
- Still stuck? Schedule a service appointment with AutoNation Honda Covington Pike and our team will take a look.

Bluetooth FAQs
How do I pair my phone to Bluetooth in my Honda?
Park your Honda with the power on and turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Press the Home button, select Phone, then select Yes or Add Bluetooth Device. On your phone, select HandsFreeLink from the Bluetooth list, confirm the pairing code matches on both screens, then allow contact sharing when your phone asks.
Why can't my phone find my Honda when I pair it?
Start with the basics. Make sure Bluetooth is on and your phone is unlocked, and that your Honda is in pairing mode. On the Honda screen, select HandsFreeLink Not Found, then Continue, and pick your phone when it appears. If it still doesn't show up, restart your phone, delete HandsFreeLink from your phone's Bluetooth list, and pair again.
Why does my Honda show a pairing code?
The code confirms that your phone and your Honda are pairing with each other. Check that the code on the Honda screen matches the code on your phone, then confirm on both. If the codes don't match, start the pairing steps over.
How many phones can I pair to my Honda?
Many Honda models let you pair up to six phones, but only one phone is active for calls at a time. To add another phone, go to Settings > Phone > Bluetooth Device List > Add Bluetooth Device. Use Priority Device Settings to choose which phone connects first.
How do I delete a phone from my Honda?
Go to Settings > Phone > Bluetooth Device List, select the phone and choose the option to delete it. Then remove HandsFreeLink from the Bluetooth list on your phone so the two forget each other before you pair again.
Why don't my contacts show up in my Honda?
Your phone has to share your contacts with HandsFreeLink. When your phone asks during pairing, allow access to your contacts and messages. If you missed the prompt, open your phone's Bluetooth settings for your Honda, turn on contact sharing and reconnect.
Why is Add Bluetooth Device grayed out in my Honda?
If Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is connected, your Honda won't let you pair another Bluetooth device. Disconnect CarPlay or Android Auto first, then return to the Bluetooth Device List and select Add Bluetooth Device.
Why does my phone work for calls but not for music in my Honda?
Calls and music are separate Bluetooth connections. On the Bluetooth Device List, check that your phone shows as compatible with both HandsFreeLink and Bluetooth Audio, then choose Bluetooth Audio as your audio source.
